About us

Our Story

Where it all began

Destiny Impact CBO began in 2021 as a self-help group named Nakalila Annex women group. Located in rural Bungoma county of Kenya, the rampant cases of domestic violence and poverty among married women were so alarming that we felt a need to empower the women economically for more independent lives. We realized that the women were largely illiterate and from poor backgrounds, which made them to stay in abusive marriages due to dependency.

Learning to save together

Our first task was to create awareness on financial literacy, and luckily, we got a friend trainer from world vision, Kenya who educated us on financial literacy skills free of charge and guided us to prepare booklets for Table banking. After setting up structures, we registered 32 women who paid membership fee.

From one loan to 253 trained women

We selected a team of 5 women with basic literacy skills to form a committee to write a proposal for funding. We later got an affirmative action loan of KES 100000 from a gender empowerment government agency. This loan opened another door for funding by a UK donor who trained 253 women in basketry, jewelry and soap production, an achievement that led us to win a selection by Bungoma county to exhibit our products in the East African Community trade fair of 2024.
